Theme:
There are multiple themes throughout this book. One of them is that you have to have strength and skill to survive this world. I think that this portrays a lot through this story. Ender Wiggin, who turned to be an army commander, wouldn't have been able to do be the commander he is without strength or skill. This theme applies to life because without strength to pull you through tough times, and skill so you can excel and achieve many goals you may have, you would not be able to achieve anything. You need both to be able to get jobs or basically anything.
There is also a theme of ruthlessness throughout the novel. In order to be commander, Ender has to be ruthless with the rest of the of the people at battle school. Also, once he is commander, he has to be ruthless in order to keep the buggers(aliens) from attacking Earth. I think this theme applies to real life, since a lot of people have to compete in life, to go to top schools, top colleges, to get the best jobs, and in order to, you have to be ruthless because competition is so fierce.
Another theme in this book is humanity. Although Ender is a brilliant kid and a ruthless killer, he is very compassionate. He never kills anything or anyone meaningfully. If someone bullies him, he defends himself, but not knowing his capabilities, he hurts a person way more than he intends to. The first time he injured someone, he was deeply disturbed for days. Even as the commander of the whole army, he is still very kind and compassionate. Similarly in real life, everyone is humane and compassionate. Some are not the kindest of people, but can be. Because that is life and life is humanity.
